Stabilisation and protection of slopes along DW367

On the boundary between the towns of Wałbrzych and Boguszów-Gorce, along regional road no. 367, which links Jelenia Góra with Wałbrzych, we carried out works for EUROVIA Polska S.A. relating to the stabilisation and landslide protection of slopes.

The works were carried out along a section approximately 800 metres long, where the road runs along the slopes and over a high embankment where it crosses the valley. This section is characterised by numerous switchbacks, typical of road infrastructure in mountain terrain.

The scope of work included the construction of micropiles to form the foundation for retaining walls, together with their anchoring using self-drilling anchors, and the stabilisation of the slopes by installing soil nails, together with the fitting of a surface cladding made of steel mesh.

As part of the project performance, we constructed:

• micropiles with a diameter of 300–330 mm and a total length exceeding 1100 running metres,
• tiebacks with a diameter of 150 mm and a total length of nearly 400 running metres,
• soil nails with a diameter of 150 mm and a total length of nearly 2000 running metres.

During the project, Tergon encountered variable soil conditions, which required the appropriate selection of drilling tools, including down-the-hole hammers to drive the designed micropiles, anchors and nails into hard rock. Every project of this kind is another learning experience for us and further proof that our solutions are up to the task in challenging mountain terrain.
